Advisors' Opinion:- [By Jonas Elmerraji]
We're seeing the exact same price setup in shares of small-cap pharmaceutical name The Medicines Co. (MDCO) this week. Just like Gerdau, MDCO has spent the last several months trading in a descending triangle setup; the key difference here is that this trade hasn't triggered yet. The sell signal comes in on a break below support down at $24.
Why all of the significance at $24? It's not magic. Whenever you're looking at any technical price pattern, it's critical to keep buyers and sellers in mind. Patterns like the descending triangle are a good way to quickly describe what's going on in a stock, but they're not the reason it's tradable. Instead, it all comes down to supply and demand for shares.
That $24 level in MDCO is the spot where there's previously been an excess of demand for shares; in other words, it's a price where buyers have been more eager to step in and buy shares at a lower price than sellers were to sell. That's what makes a breakdown below support so significant -- the move means that sellers are finally strong enough to absorb all of the excess demand at the at price level. While MDCO could still have some upside in the near-term and stay within the triangle, it's a name best avoided this summer.

Advisors' Opinion:- [By Matt DiLallo]
Even producers focusing on legacy oil and gas production are finding the Permian Basin to be important for production growth. LINN Energy (NASDAQ: LINE ) , for example, has built a significant position in the play over the past few years. It's deal for Berry Petroleum, which is soon to be closed, will double the company's drilling inventory in the Wolfberry Trend portion of the play. The company made its strategic entry into the Permian in 2009 when LINN thought it was simply accumulating long-life, low-risk, oil properties which could be added to over time. Luckily, the company has gotten that and more from the play and will have about 725 future drilling locations once it closes the Berry deal.

It’s the moment investors in Linn Energy (LINE) have been waiting for–the SEC’s decision to approve or block it merger with Berry Petroleum (BRY).
REUTERSFrom Linn Energy’s press release:
LINN Energy, LLC, LinnCo, LLC (LNCO) and Berry Petroleum Company (the “Companies”) announced today that the final Registration Statement on Form S-4 has been declared effective by the Securities and Exchange Commission (“SEC”), and the Companies have also filed definitive proxy materials with the SEC.
Raymond James analyst Pavel Molchanov explains the significance:
LINN Energy and Berry Petroleum announced that the SEC has declared their S-4 effective. At this point the companies are in the process of mailing out the proxy materials. LINN Energy and Berry Petroleum have scheduled a shareholder vote date of December 16, and the record date for the company shareholders is November 14….This is clearly positive news for both LINE and BRY shareholders. The SEC approval helps remove the cloud of doubt that has been hanging over the upstream MLP business model. Look for both stocks to rally on today news.
And indeed it has been. Linn Energy has gained 1.7% to $30.17, Linn Co. has edged up 0.5% to $31.85 and Berry Petroleum has risen 1.1% to $51.49.

In a previous article I outlined why royalty trusts were terrible long-term investments and why income investors should choose upstream MLPs as an alternative. Since that time, while researching Linn Energy (NASDAQ: LINE ) and its recent deal with ExxonMobila stark contrast has become evident to me that I wanted to share with you.
- [By David Dittman]
Question: David, are you impressed with Linn Energy LLC (NSDQ: LINE) and its progress since the Barron’s crash?
Answer: Yes. Management has taken steps to address a questionable production growth profile. And the unit price has clearly rebounded well.

So what: Revenue was up 7.7%, to $283 million in the first quarter, and net income jumped 11.1%, to $17.4 million, or $0.18 per share. Analysts only expected $278 million in revenue, and earnings of $0.17 per share, and the slight beat was enough to send shares higher. It didn't hurt that the report was accompanied by a $50 million share repurchase plan, which indicates that management is bullish on the company's long-term future.
